MIC Sandip Ranjan Bakshi has announced the start of a significant project aimed at improving Kolkata's infrastructure by eliminating the city's overhead cable wires. The project involves laying underground cables along a stretch from Hazra More to Tollygunge Phari in South Kolkata. This initiative is expected to reduce the visual clutter created by the tangled mess of wires that have long been an eyesore in the city.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has already identified 40 key roads across the city where the underground cabling will be implemented. The project, which will extend to North Kolkata soon, is designed to enhance the city's aesthetics and improve the overall urban experience for residents. By replacing the exposed overhead cables with underground lines, the authorities aim to minimize hazards such as accidents caused by poorly maintained or hanging wires.
MIC Sandip Ranjan Bakshi also highlighted that cable companies failing to follow the guidelines set by the KMC would face strict penalties. The move is part of the city’s broader effort to modernize and streamline its infrastructure, ensuring a more organized and safer environment for both residents and visitors.
